Rick Roll

My friend and I have been Rick Rolling each other for quite a while now. The art of Rick Rolling is to  post something on Facebook that seems appealing to my friend and then friggin' Rick Astley comes out in full force. Back in the day I remember he was grooving to this song (not sure if it was a joke or not) so this was the early inspiration. You can't constantly just Rick Roll all the time. You have to have strategy and timing. You have to have someone miss you for a while then your posting will be most enticing. I remember he and his girlfriend were really into cats since they recently got a cat. I used this to my advantage and posted this: (cat video) preceded by (angry cat)  among many other annoying posts. My friend has his own production company (Newmerica) and I was extra flattered that he took the time to make Agent Gallery a very cheezball third word production Rick Roll! Just click the picture of Rick Astley above or as Bryan would say 'you may win a fee ipod'.

Aaron Draplin

I was recently reminded of Aaron Draplin while reading Michael Williams (ACL) post. I like this guy. He is straight forward and I have been showing my students clips of him talking about design, and simplicity. There are several good ones to see, but here is one that I find entertaining.

This is what Chicago will sound like again...

When I was in kid growing up in Texas this is what I thought Chicago was like. Thanks to Wax Trax Records it helped shape much of this idea (along with well cultivated imagery). Recently, I have been listening to local groups like Valis http://soundcloud.com/v-a-l-i-s and also if you remember (from past postings) there is a cool group {She Pased Away} from Turkey http://www.myspace.com/shepastaway . Something is in the air.

Brussels Griffon

I was at this awesome B & B and the owner had this dog that was amazing in every way. I don't really obsess about dogs but there was something about his dog. It had the best face and it reminded me of an ewok. I typed in 'ewok dog' in google and got the Brussels Griffon. I am not sure that the dog was this type but it is pretty close. Also, when a lady attempeted to go in the kitchen the dog sounded like a roaring demon! It was the worst most terrible sound coming from this small creature. I was impressed. I will have to find one of these little dogs to call my own.

Look at the 'Gallery Artist' Section

I was represented by several fancy galleries in my time (you can see one of them pictured below). Now I am self represented here in Agent Gallery Chicago and I am excited to have full control to do whatever I please. I am currently working on sculptures at the moment and I can't wait to post them here. If you want to get previews of what is in the works, feel free to contact me for a studio visits. I will be having a solo show in Chicago (in little over a year)--not at AGC, but another cool space that I will announce shortly. In the 'Artist Section' I have posted some older paintings and some new ones I haven't shown. To see an expanded selection of older work go to www.marianochavez.com .  I will be posting new work as time goes on. This is the new way--I make my way.

Listen I've been at the studio

I have been in the studio a lot lately. I know that you probably want to know what I have been up to.  I will post pictures soon enough and I am sorry I have been out of he news stream lately, but things are looking good. I have been working on sculptures over the last few months. The thing about running a studio and also managing interns is order and keeping a well organized space. I am learning a great deal about managing folks. It is not easy if you want to keep things tidy and focused. Here is a good video that tom sachs made for his staff about organization. It is rather funny but it also provides valuable lessons and practices--especially if you have several assistants helping out. Remember--Aways be Knolling--Always.
