C.1958 Fireman's Life Saving Machine

$4,250.00

This beautiful and meditative piece came from an old firehouse and dates from the late 50's. Piece can fold down in quarters for easy transport and set up. Firemen used these devices to save people from burning buildings that had no choice but to jump down onto the target to get saved. Although these pieces served a practical function as objects they become a powerful piece of minimalist work. The center red dot with the subdued white stitching will add a very striking and meditative center piece to a large loft space or building that needs a focal divider. Piece has a weighty metal ring that was used to grip onto that frames the elegant quilted pad with the red dot. Underneath the piece is heavy stitched canvas duct with very interesting mechanical springs that absorb the shock of the fall in the rear. Piece is stenciled with makers mark on the back and comes with natural wear from use. The wear is mostly the footprints and dirt that the item gained over time from use, but otherwise is in excellent condition and is ready to use and adds character as-is. Measures 9' 6" in diameter. Made of canvas, leather and metal.
