The Hunters Companion

This hand carved duck is an early example of American sport hunting craft. Not many good examples of these ducks are available today. You can clearly see why due to the heavy use that these decoys were intended for the hunter didn't realize what a prized piece of Americana these pieces would become. Each duck that was used was individually crafted and painted out of wood and balanced with lead weights to keep them floating at the proper level. This one has nice remnants of paint on the bill and body with nice carving marks on the body. Piece is signed on the bottom.
